Many Indians start their day with morning yoga, believing it's healthy. But in polluted cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru, early morning exercise (5–8 AM) could harm your health. Air quality is worst at 7 AM in these metros due to temperature inversion, trapping PM2.5 and pollutants near the ground.

Yoga involves deep breathing, drawing more pollutants deeper into your lungs — especially dangerous when outdoor pollution levels are highest. Many residents are shifting to indoor yoga to avoid smog hazards.

So When Should You Practise?

The best time for outdoor yoga in India is late morning (10–11 AM) or evening (5–6 PM) when AQI levels drop. The safest option is indoor yoga with an air purifier, ensuring clean air regardless of outdoor pollution.

Is morning yoga safe in polluted cities? Not without protection. Check AQI before outdoor exercise, and consider practising indoors. Use an air purifier during indoor yoga. Breathe clean air, every day.
